How Your Vote Will Affect Healthcare
by Editor-in-Chief

In preparation for the impending presidential election, Context Journal contacted the campaigns of each of the leading presidential candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain, in order to solicit more about their views on critical health concerns facing the nation. Specifically, the writers were asked to discuss the policies and priorities of the candidates on the following four key issues: 1) Healthcare access for traditionally underserved populations, such as those living in poverty, undocumented immigrants, homeless individuals, rural communities, and indigenous populations; 2) Health disparities and inequities in care by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status; 3) Current national health priorities, including but not limited to infant mortality, healthcare for the elderly, HIV/AIDS, sexual education, and the impact of war on health; and 4) The future of health professions training. The following articles are written by graduate and professional students who support the respective candidates, although they may or may not actually be involved with the candidate’s campaign.
